Godden, 27, said: “Why not celebrate when you’re doing your job? I’m going to celebrate whenever I score.

“If I’d played 400 or 500 games for Scunthorpe – maybe even 200 – then maybe there would be different feelings. But I played probably about 15 games.”

Although forced to work his way back up the hard way, he is happy to have been through it: “Nowadays not many people want to do it. They all want the status of playing Premier League, Championship, League One.

Coleman said: “‘Ozzy’ down into non-league to try to rebuild my career and luckily it’s happened the way it has and I’m back up in League One.

“It probably comes from my parents, to always have a good attitude – and that’s probably something that’s gone out of the game a little bit.”

Scunthorpe boss Stuart McCall wants a change of mindset from his fragile-looking players.

He said: “I had belief that we would get a goal – but two or three of them don’t seem to believe it.

“We have more belief in them than they seem to have in themselves.”
