‘Designer to blame’ over tot cot choke

‘Nazi fans’ deny being in far-right terror group

DANGER Holes in bunk cot A SEVEN-month baby choked to death in a bespoke cot because of the designer’s negligence, it was claimed in court.

Oscar Abbey wriggled backwards through a hole that was too big and his head became trapped, starving him of oxygen, the jury was told.

Dad Charlie, 24, of York, found him and “instantly realised he was gone”.

Mum Shannon, 23, had emailed Craig Williams, 37, boss of Playtime Beds, to ask what age the cot, part of a £610 bunk bed, was for and was told: “Any age.”

The prosecutor told Leeds crown court Oscar died because the cot was “designed without care to the safety of the child in it”.

Williams, of Rotherham, denies manslaught­er and fraud. The trial continues. Jurors were shown a photo said to be of Adam Thomas in the gown and hood of the US white supremacy organisati­on.

Another is said to show Thomas, 22, and Claudia Patatas, 38, by a Nazi flag with their son, who was allegedly named after Adolf Hitler.

Prosecutor Barnaby Jameson QC told jurors the snaps were from the “Thomas-Patatas family album”.

Describing the photo of Thomas in a KKK outfit holding his son, he said: “The suggestion is that is Mr Thomas and his child, whose middle name is Adolf.”

And talking about a photo of a hooded man with a machete, he said: “There is a strong inference it was taken inside their home, and the person in the robes was Thomas.”

Jurors were also shown a festive card, with KKK figures and the words: “May all your Christmase­s be white.”

Birmingham crown court was told Nazi gear found in their semi included a Swastika cookie-cutter, cushions, armbands and farright uniforms.

Other items seized by police included a copy of a letter written by SS chief Heinrich Himmler plus Nazi Swastika cookie-cutter Jurors were shown snap from couple’s “family album” flags and banners. It is also alleged the couple allowed a convicted racist to pose for a snap with their son while making a “Hitler salute”.

Jurors were told it held an online beauty pageant called “Miss Hitler” in 2016.

Patatas, Thomas and Daniel Bogunovic, 27, of Leicester, deny belonging to a banned organisati­on. Thomas also denies a charge relating to possessing items which could be used for a terrorist act.

The defendants allegedly had “extensive weaponry” including an axe, crossbows and knives.

Thomas and Bogunovic are said to have had a “particular interest” in machetes. Police also allegedly found National Action flags and banners.

The trial continues.
