The life of a sports journalist can often be a privileged one. The problem, if you happen to be watching your weight, is that some of that privilege can take place at the wrong time of day.

As with other professions where Monday to Friday, nine to five does not apply. Regular meal times go out of the window – and grabbing what you can, when you can, is all too often the order of the day.

If you are on the road covering a live sports event, the organisers usually lay on some food in the press room.

If you get there in time to bolt some of it down your neck in too much of a hurry, it is frequently the wrong side of the healthy line by a distance.

So credit to Wembley Stadium for bucking the trend when I arrived under the Arch on Sunday not long before Oakland and Seattle kicked off in the NFL.

Pre-game offering in the press room? Grilled salmon, green beans, bubble and squeak.

OK, the peach and pear crumble on a chilly autumn day was tough to pass up, and the half-time vegetarian pizza was still pizza, but sometimes people just need a little encouragement to make healthier choices.

And guess what? The salmon, greens and B&S were delicious.

Maybe the next generation of sports journalists will look more like the people they write about and less like cheerleaders for the couch potato lifestyle. 2lbs, 14st 8lb, down 42”, no change, 40”, no change, 39”, no change, 42”, no change, To find your nearest Slimming World group visit slimmingworld.co.uk or call 0344 897 8000.
