PRINCE Harry yesterday let slip he is hoping for a girl when wife Meghan gives birth.

It came after the duchess had told how she wanted a daughter, even buying a special watch as an heirloom should she ever have one.

It is the first time 34-year-old Harry has revealed his feelings about the sex of the royal baby since it was announced last week his wife was pregnant.

The prince revealed his wishes at a cycle race he was attending in Sydney.

A fan called out: “Congratulations, I hope it’s a girl.” He replied: “So do I.”

His words echo Meghan’s own wishes. In an interview the former actress had told how she got a £5,000Cartier Tank Francoise watch to celebrate the renewal of TV series Suits for a third time. The duchess said: “I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day.

“That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.”

Harry’s comments about wanting a girl came during a day of high jinks in Sydney on the second day of his Invictus Games for injured service personnel.

The prince was chatting to ABC sports reporter Dylan Alcott when athlete Matt Model handed him a pair of skimpy swimming trunks, which he then put on.

Dylan, a triple Paralympic gold medallist in wheelchair tennis and basketball, said: “We gave him a gift. One of the athletes, Matt, gave him a pair of budgie smugglers. And he put them on, over his jeans. It looks awesome.

“He said, ‘Shall I put them on?’ We said, ‘One hundred per cent.’ So he put them on… Good on him.

“I think it did wonders for him. It looked good.” Harry was seen guffawing

as he pulled on the trunks. He said: “Yes. Bondi Beach perhaps?

“Oh, look at those. It doesn’t get any better than that, does it? This type of silky camouflage… only in Australia would you get something like this. It’s so wrong, but it’s wonderful.” Posing for a photograph, Harry joked: “With or without the budgie smugglers? It so tempting…” He then slipped the Aussie flag trunks over his trousers.

Harry was chatting to Dylan, Matt and team co-captain Nicole Bradley when they paid a visit to Admiralty

House, the Governor General’s residence where the royals are staying while in Sydney.

The prince and his 37-year-old wife also chatted to children at the Olympic Park during a day of laughter and fun.

It emerged 12 weeks pregnant Meghan has decided to pull out of a host of events on her first major royal tour due to exhaustion.

The pair, who will not seek any official royal role for their first child, are a week into their 16-day tour Down Under, taking on 76 engagements without a day off.

She spent yesterday morning resting while Harry was at the cycling event as part of the Invictus Games.

And Meghan will not attend public events in Queensland today when the couple travel to Fraser Island, home to the longest sand beach in the world.

The royals have already met thousands of people in Sydney,

Melbourne and Dubbo as well launching the games, which Harry created in 2014.

Royal sources claim Harry has told Meghan to slow down after she felt tired when the opening ceremony overran by nearly two hours.

She attended a reception hosted by Australian PM Scott Morrison yesterday afternoon but is said to be “feeling tired” after the constant travelling and hectic scheduling.

A palace spokesman said: “After a busy programme, the duke and duchess have decided to cut back the duchess’s schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week and a half of the tour.”

On Tuesday Harry and Meghan travel to Fiji, Tonga on Thursday before flying back to Australia on Friday for the Invictus Games closing ceremony the day after.
