SAS to take women after last combat barrier lifted

WOMEN can join Britain’s special forces, including the SAS, after the Government lifted the last ban on them fighting on the front line.

Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson praised women’s “exemplary service in specialist and vital roles” since 1902.

He added: “I am delighted that from today, for the first time in its history, our armed forces will be determined by ability alone and not gender.”

Women already serving can apply now for transfer to infantry units. Royal Marines selection will start before the end of the year but recruitmen­t you have a team of men, even with one or two women, it could lead to divisivene­ss.”
