Cheap way to boost maths
First of the Christmas TV adverts launched
THIS year’s Christmas ads have arrived with Argos unleashing a tiny terror tonight determined to spoil all the festive fun.
In The Christmas Fool, the longeared imp breaks fairy lights, opens gifts and knocks an angel off a tree, all set to Verdi’s rousing opera Rigoletto.
When a little girl races outside to see a snowflake fall, the mini-fiend turns the snow into a thunderstorm.
But an Argos driver spots the scamp and boots him into the back of the van to join an army of his fellow killjoys.
The ad airs tonight in commercial breaks during Coronation Street on ITV and Channel 4’s Gogglebox.
Argos marketing director Gary Kibble said: “The ad brings to life tiny annoyances that cause festive chaos.”
Currys PC World last night unveiled its advert featuring Victorian carol singers using tablets to sing hymns.
Asda launches its ad today but John Lewis is yet to reveal the launch date for its effort featuring Sir Elton John. Aftermath Causing chaos TUTORING by university students can significantly improve maths results of disadvantaged pupils, a trial has shown.
The Education Endowment Foundation, which did the probe, now wants schools to adopt the cheap training scheme.
Sir Peter Lampl, of EEF, said the method was “highly effective” in the trial at 105 primary schools in Leeds and Manchester.
Children in small groups had 12 hours of tuition, often an hour a week.
