Silva: Rich resilience inspires us

- BY MIKE WHALLEY

MARCO SILVA believes Richarlison used guts to set an example to the rest of his squad on Saturday.

The £40million summer signing (above) scored twice in a 3-1 win over Brighton, but had looked in trouble after rolling his ankle early in the first half.

“It was no surprise to me that Richarlison carried on but it shows you his resilience,” said Silva.

“He never gives up, he’s always ready to fight and achieve. It is the behaviour I want on the pitch.”

■ The Joy From Brazil, Pullout Page 8 CHRIS LOWE believes David Wagner has achieved the impossible at Huddersfield – and has told his team-mates to make sure they do not throw away all of his good work.

Wagner celebrates the third anniversary of his appointment as Terriers boss tonight with a crucial Premier League home match against Fulham.

But there is little for the German or his players to smile about with Town winless, bottom of the table and without a goal at home since April.

Left-back Lowe insists that the head coach worked wonders just getting the club into the top flight, given that they were fighting relegation from the Championship when he arrived in November 2015.

But defeat by next-to-bottom Fulham tonight would cast Wagner’s side five points adrift of safety, with the pressure on both teams increased by Newcastle’s win over Watford.

Lowe (above) said: “He’s a brilliant head coach. How he changed the club in those three years is impossible.

“He always sticks to his players. He always believes in us. He gives us the confidence to go out there and try HUDDERSFIELD: FULHAM: REFEREE: HEAD2HEAD: everything to get good results and play good football.

“He is a great manager and we hope we can show for him on Monday that we are there to get three points.” Huddersfield’s big problem is scoring – they were promoted from the Championship in 2017 with a negative goal difference, and stayed up in May despite failing to find the net in 21 out of 38 Premier League games. This season, they have scored just four times in 10 league games, although they gave Liverpool a rough ride in their last home game a fortnight ago before losing 1-0.

As far as Lowe is concerned, tonight’s game is Huddersfield’s biggest of the season – and their most important since the 1-1 draw at Chelsea in May that secured top-flight survival. He said: “Everyone is aware of the situation and that this is a very important game. It’s probably the most important since we played Chelsea away last season. “We know we have to deliver. And with good support from the stands, I’m sure that we can turn this around.” people are focused on how he is going to save the team.

“Ryan is in a similar category to Phil Foden and Brahim Diaz. Fortunately for these two players, they have a little bit of an easier job playing around world-class players at Manchester City.” Wagner – here with Alex Pritchard – believes his players will come good in the top flight
