ALL CHANGE SINCE WE MOVED IN

-

Dear Coleen

I’ve been with my boyfriend for nearly two years and we’ve been saving frantically to get the money to rent a bigger place together. I’ve thought of nothing else for months and was so excited when we finally got our place and moved in.

However, things haven’t been how I expected. It’s like there’s no excitement and it doesn’t seem as special as it did when we had our own places. I really love him and want to stay with him, so I’m confused about why I’m feeling like this. Any ideas?

Coleen says

Moving in together can be a pivotal point in a relationship. Suddenly you’re with that person pretty much all the time, except when you’re at work, and you do get to see different sides to them, as well as finding out all their annoying habits. And it can take a bit of time to adjust.

But if you’re feeling bored and maybe taken for granted or if you’ve both stopped making an effort for each other, then tell him how you’re feeling and do something about it.

Now you’ve got your own place, the temptation might be to curl up in front of the telly every night with a TV dinner, so make sure you have a date night where you dress up and go out.

All relationships are a work in progress and need nurturing however great they are, so you can’t just put your feet up and hope for the best now you’re living together.
