TalkTalk can’t walk the walk Firm tops complaints league yet again

- BY SIMON READ

TELECOMS firm TalkTalk has again been named the worst broadband and landline provider for customer satisfaction.

It has now topped Ofcom’s table of shame for four consecutive quarters.

In the latest three-month period it had 24 broadband gripes per 100,000 customers, down from 29 in the previous quarter. The next worst performer was Plusnet with 17.

Topping the landline moans league, TalkTalk had 17 per 100,000, just ahead of the Post Office with 16.

Virgin Mobile generated the most complaints for pay-monthly services and Virgin Media was worst for pay-TV.

The good news is complaints about broadband, landline, mobile and pay-TV have fallen to their lowest levels since Ofcom started collecting the data in 2010. But telecoms firms must still improve, said the watchdog’s Jane Rumble. “We’re encouraged complaints are at their lowest levels, but we expect telecoms and TV companies still falling short to up their game and deliver better service.”

Ofcom said Sky and Tesco Mobile were performing well, while BT and its brands EE and Plusnet had improved.

A TalkTalk spokesman said: “We continue to invest heavily to improve our service.”

The firm yesterday launched a Fairer Broadband Charter to “challenge unfair industry practices”.

TalkTalk boss Tristia Harrison said: “Telecoms firms have ripped off consumers far too long. The industry has to change to rebuild trust.”
