Elton John... Lewis
SIR Elton John celebrates the gift of music in the first festive John Lewis ad to deliver a superstar.
The icon plays Your Song as we see how unwrapping his first piano one Christmas led to him finding fame.
The £7million ad starts in the present and looks back on his journey.
Five actors play him, with Freddie Henderson, four, finally showing little Reginald Dwight’s joy at getting his gran’s upright piano. And while he tries it out, Elton, 71, takes up the tune as the line “Some gifts are more than a gift” appears. The ad is on ITV at 9.15pm tonight, in Dark Heart. Spin-off goods in John Lewis include keyboards and pianos, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road on vinyl and T-shirts. Elton said: “It’s been a lovely opportunity to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey and how first playing my grandmother’s piano marks the moment when music came into my life.” HAS John Lewis dropped the bauble this year with Rocket Man playing Your Song? Stroppy, multi-millionaire Elton isn’t exactly the poster boy for “peace and goodwill to all men” is he?
He didn’t have his own mum round for Christmas dinner for almost a decade because they fell out. Yet here he is teaching us the true meaning of giving… while John Lewis flog his LPs for £25.99 and retro T-shirts for £40.
I hope you don’t mind...but I’m not falling for it.
THE John Lewis Christmas advert featuring Elton John is another classic.
The Rocket Man could be just the person to give the high street stalwart a boost.
