Liverpool legend becomes a Sir.. but says he’ll still be putting the bins out

KING Kenny may now be a knight but the football legend insists he will stay grounded... and still take the rubbish out himself.

The Liverpool hero was crowned a Sir by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace yesterday. And Kenny Dalglish revealed the prince cheekily asked if he could get him a seat for the next game at Anfield.

The former player and manager, 67, laughed: “He was looking for a ticket for the match but I’ve not got any.”

And, despite his lofty title, Sir Kenny said he plans to keep a level head.

“I will go home and put the bins out for the weekend,” he smiled.

The ex-Scottish internatio­nal also said that the prince had helped to soothe his jitters. “He was very calming. I don’t know why but you get nervous. He was very nice.” The former Celtic and Liverpool forward was knighted for his services to football, charity and to the city of Liverpool.

Referring to the honour, he said: “I don’t think I will ever be comfortabl­e [with it]. It’s embarrassi­ng, really.

“I never did it for anything other than because that’s what you are supposed to do. Our reward was to see people back with a smile on their face. It’s very humbling but I’m very proud.”

Sir Kenny, who started his career at Celtic, went on to become both a player and a manager on Merseyside, where fans lauded him as King Kenny. He also led Blackburn Rovers to the league title and managed Newcastle United.

But it was his efforts in the wake of the Hillsborou­gh disaster that won him the hearts of fans around the world.
