£4bn ‘lost’ in old accounts

OVER £4billion is stashed in “zombie” bank accounts that are never checked.

One in five people have them with an average £411 each, £4.2billion UK-wide.

Those in Plymouth have most lying idle at £1,940.

MoneySuper­Market, which carried out the poll of 1,500, said: “It’s important to check accounts.” Top 10 zombie account cities:

8. Edinburgh £250, 9. Leicester £250, 10. Newcastle, £250. Rare white lion Mufasa RICKY Gervais is backing a campaign to save a rare lion set to be shot by a trophy hunter.

Punters are expected to bid up to £30,000 for the chance to gun down the South African white lion called Mufasa.

Comic Ricky, 57, told his 13 million Twitter followers: “Shame on the pathetic sadist who pays the money to shoot this animal and shame on the snivelling coward who accepts the money. Both worthless.” There are believed to be fewer than 300 white lions like Mufasa in the world, with just 13 in the wild. The big cat, who was confiscate­d as a cub three years ago, is being auctioned off by South African authoritie­s because he is infertile. More than 200,000 Gervais Mufasa awaits his fate people have signed a petition calling for the decision to be reversed and for him to be moved to a sanctuary.

The Rustenburg Wildlife Rehabilita­tion Centre said it had been told by three officials that Mufasa was going under the hammer to “recover legal costs”.

A spokesman said: “Please help us prevent the atrocity of having this beautiful lion condemned to a trophy or a bag of bones.”
