Ruined hol is third time unlucky for ‘Safari Sajid’

SAJID Javid has now been forced to abandon three trips after work got in the way.

The multi-millionair­e ex-banker faced calls to quit as Business Secretary in March 2016 when he was in Australia during the steel crisis. He had taken his daughter Sophia, then 16, on an official visit and planned to extend the trip with a holiday.

But his break clashed with a crunch Tata Steel board meeting in Mumbai, India, where the firm decided to sell its UK business, plunging 4,000 jobs at Port Talbot, South Wales, into jeopardy. Then in February 2017, when he was Communitie­s Secretary, he was blasted for being on holiday in Dubai during a row over business rates hikes. A Government source said at the time: “Sajid got us into this mess and it has been left to the Treasury to try to clear it up.”

Javid faces Port Talbot workers in 2016 senior ministers, including Theresa May, opted to remain in the UK over Christmas.

But Mr Javid’s decision to jet off 6,000 miles could prove a hammer blow for his chances of succeeding the Prime Minister in No10.
