Promotion bid still on track says Leeds star

ADAM FORSHAW insisted Leeds’ promotion campaign will not be derailed by this defeat.

The midfielder admitted Marcelo Bielsa’s men were “flat” as excellent Hull shackled their attack and two goals from Jarrod Bowen earned victory.

But Forshaw (right) believes Leeds are still “in credit,” ahead of their points total and ready to start another winning streak against Nottingham Forest tomorrow.

Leeds have 51 points, clear of the chasing pack and the midfielder added: “The lads are really disappointed. We were a little bit flat.

“If you want to get promoted, you always want to guarantee you get two points per game, so we are still in credit. We go from there.

“I think we have proven quality. We are top of the league at the moment. It is no fluke and we are scoring goals and playing exciting football.

“I am sure everyone is enjoying it and if the belief was not there now, then I don’t know why. Everything has gone really well. We are top of the league.

“We have conceded two against Hull, but it was after seven wins on the bounce. If we can put that together now after a defeat today then we won’t be too far away.”

The Tigers were feisty and ruthless on the break, Bowen confirming his growing reputation with a double. City boss Nigel Adkins is convinced Leeds will earn promotion, saying: “We’ve played all the top teams and we’ve done all right, but Leeds have to go up this year. This is their year.

“That’s probably why it makes it more special that we’ve come to a packed Elland Road and got the win with a clean sheet.”

Hull keeper David Marshall agreed, especially if Leeds can spend in January. He said: “I’d be very surprised if they’re not top two or three. The transfer window is huge for clubs up there.

“At Cardiff, one January we were top, but not really scoring many, so we went and got Fraizer Campbell and he scored five in five and basically got us up, it gave us a massive boost so it can lift a club, definitely.”

Marshall also senses positive times ahead for Hull, but they need to keep key forwards Kamil Grosicki and Bowen (below).

He added: “It’s definitely the most satisfying result of the season. It’s a crazy league. Three months ago everyone expected us to be in a dogfight. We need to embrace this run, it’s probably the best since I’ve been here.”
