BRUSSELS chief Jean-Claude Juncker has urged the UK to “get your act together” over Brexit.

The European Commission President also said yesterday the British public was being “unreasonable”.

It came as Trade Secretary Liam Fox warned chances of Brexit will be slim if MPs vote down Prime Minister Theresa May’s deal next month.

Mr Juncker said: “I find it entirely unreasonable for parts of the British public to believe it is for the EU alone to propose a solution for all future British problems. Get your act together then tell us what it is you want.

“Our proposed solutions have been on the table for months.”

He went on: “I have the impression the majority of British MPs deeply distrust both the EU and Mrs May. It is being insinuated our aim is to keep the UK in the EU by all possible means. That is not our intention.”

MPs vote on Mrs May’s deal in the week of January 14. Dr Fox said: “If we were not to vote for it, I’m not sure I’d give [Brexit] much more than 50-50.”

Ex-Brexit Secretary David Davis predicted renegotiation but said: “We will get a deal, it will be a better one.”

Meanwhile, it was claimed a firm which won a £13.8million deal to run extra freight ferries in the event of a no-deal Brexit does not have ships.

Government said it gave Seaborne Freight the contract in “full knowledge it is a new shipping provider”.

■ Ireland received almost 200,000 passport requests from the UK this year, up by more than a fifth on 2017.
