Jeremy, let’s unite to see off Tory rule

- FIONA PARKER

■ Jeremy, amid the chaos of Brexit, the divide between rich and poor, North and South, and ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ continues to grow.

It is scandalous that in modern Britain people in work have to rely on food banks, that the NHS is at breaking point, while schools and public services are stretched so thinly that the cracks are showing.

Years of austerity and inequality have ground people down and created a climate of fear and misery. Please bring back hope and aspiration for people from less fortunate backgrounds so that they have a chance to reach their potential and shine. The country needs you now! Jeanette Palmer, Holmfirth West Yorks

■ Jeremy, I, like many others, have watched in horror as this Tory Government has forced the working class onto the breadline.

From tax credit cuts to shambolic Brexit negotiations, time and time again Theresa May’s callous party has proved to be totally inept. We need a Labour Government and we need you as leader to take the fight to the Tories. Only with a united Labour Party can you achieve that. We can’t waste another year.

Rob Wildey, Tamworth Staffs

■ Jeremy, I believe in loyalty but unfortunately, for you, loyalty to the Labour Party is not a strong point. During Labour’s 13 years of government, you very seldom voted in support of many of the good things the party introduced. Many older party members who worked hard at election time and afterwards have now left in disgust feeling Momentum has taken over meetings but aren’t prepared to do the work.

From someone who has worked hard for the party for 30 years my New Year message is, do us all a favour and resign, Jeremy, before you do us any more damage.

Margaret Coxage, Hemel Hempstead, Herts

■ Jeremy, we hope you make this a Happy New Year by becoming Prime Minister and ending all the austerity of 2018.

Great Britain needs a great leader to put Brexit to bed once and for all and bring a good night’s sleep to the nation.

A brighter future in 2019 would be a dream come true. Clint & Jennifer Gibson, Penrith

■ Jeremy, I have every faith in you as Labour leader but please rally round all our Labour MPs as we need solidarity to remove this wretched Tory Government.

Fighting among yourselves will not help the homeless and all those people who are having to use food banks. If we stand together we can beat them.

Jenny Moore, Hinckley, Leics

■ Jeremy, good luck on winning the next General Election. You’ll have your work cut out trying to convince working class Tories to vote for you, despite this Government’s appalling record in office.

They have failed in every area, leaving ordinary people struggling to keep their dignity and health.

R Fry, Thetford, Norfolk

■ Jeremy, please give way to a younger member of the Labour Party. Your ideas are stuck in the 1970s and I’m old enough to remember the three-day week, binmen’s strike and so on. Give Labour a chance at the next election by doing the right thing.

Mary Taylor Fairburn
