WOLVES SINKING TEETH INTO TAM

TERRIERS PLAN RAID FOR TOON’S MURPHY

- BY JAMES NURSEY WOLVES AT THE DOOR BY SIMON MULLOCK

WOLVES are dangling a fee of up to £18milllion to tempt Tammy Abraham to Molineux – and damage Aston Villa’s promotion bid.

Chelsea striker Abraham, 21, has been a huge hit on loan at Championship side Villa, scoring 16 goals in 20 games as the spearhead of their promotion push.

But the on-loan forward is tempted by a switch to the Premier League this month, with Crystal Palace also keen.

Abraham is now discussing with Chelsea whether they will use their option to recall him from his loan at Villa before selling him. A deal with ambitious Wolves could cost the promoted club up to £18m, but could also be an initial loan. Wanderers have two players on loan already, including Mexican striker Raul Jimenez (below) from Benifca. But they are looking to sign Jimenez permanently for around £30m either this month or in the summer.

Jack Grealish is seeking a further scan on his injured shin in a desperate bid to boost Villa’s promotion bid. Grealish, 23, has missed the last five games and isn’t expected back until February at the earliest. He is out of the protective boot and has been doing gym work. But the player has requested another scan because he feels he might be further on than advised. SUNDERLAND fear Josh Maja could move abroad on the cheap after talks over a new deal stalled.

The in-form striker, 20, would be following in the footsteps of England teenage sensation Jadon Sancho, who quit Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund last year.

Londoner Maja is out of contract this summer and shares the same advisers as Sancho.

He scored his 14th league goal of the season in the Black Cats’ 1-0 win over Blackpool on Tuesday.
