Ramsey’s £45m bait if he waits

- JUMPING FOR JOY BY JAMES NURSEY ITALY-BOUND BY JOHN CROSS

GARETH SOUTHGATE and his assistant Steve Holland were at Molineux last night.

The England manager has previously considered Wolves skipper Conor Coady for a call-up.

Last night was another chance to shine for the 25-year-old Scouser against his old club.

There were only six Englishmen on the pitch when the game kicked off – and Coady looked the pick of the bunch.

He has earned his spurs representing England at every age group from Under-16s to Under-20s.

Classy on the ball and assured on and off the pitch, vocal Coady is Wolves’ natural-born leader.

He may have failed to make the grade at his boyhood team on Merseyside as a youngster when he was released in 2014 to join Huddersfield.

But the ball-playing centreback has been a focal point for Wolves under Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese coach immediately spotted his composure on the ball and moved the defender into the middle of a back three when he took charge in July 2017.

It paid off as Wolves romped to the Championship title last season with an attractive passing style out from the back.

Coady has not looked out of place in the Premier League either as he has helped the club into the top 10.

Southgate has switched to a back four since England’s World Cup adventure in Russia.

So Coady must dig even deeper to earn a call-up – but this display can only help.

He underlined his class with a couple of vital late headed clearances as Liverpool piled forward in search of an equaliser, including keeper Simon Mignolet up front in a tense finale. JUVENTUS believe they have won the race for Aaron Ramsey – but want to wait until the summer before signing him.

The Italian giants have offered Ramsey a massive £45million package.

It comprises a five-year deal worth £7m a year plus a £10m signing-on fee.

And the Turin club are confident that it will be enough to see off major European competition – including Bayern Munich.

Juventus are also hoping to launch a last-minute raid for Chelsea wonderkid Callum Hudson-Odoi to try to steal him too from under Bayern’s noses.

They have held talks with Hudson-Odoi’s agents, even though the 18-year-old Chelsea starlet is believed to favour Bayern amid his contract stand-off at Stamford Bridge.

RB Leipzig are also keen and Hudson-Odoi has seen Jadon Sancho’s success at Borussia Dortmund, leaving him believing his best bet is a move to Germany.
