■ Almost half of workers are looking to move job this year, a new study reveals.
One in three are unhappy and similar numbers think they can get paid more elsewhere, while others believe they will find better job satisfaction in a new role or don’t feel their skills are valued by their current employer.
More than two in five workers want job security more than a pay rise, according to the latest annual Job Exodus research from Investors in People.
Paul Devoy, CEO at Investors In People, said: “Despite a decade or more of research looking at the economic benefits of happiness, it’s frustrating that all too often, wellbeing at work focuses on reducing stress and not increasing happiness. Yet we know that humans want to be engaged in meaningful relationships, feel valued and useful. In this environment people are happier and more productive.
”Analysis and experience have shown that increasing happiness has anything from a 12% to 14% effect on productivity.”
■ Dynamic, team player, proactive, fast-paced and can-do attitude are the top five buzzwords that dominate job adverts. But it’s no use simply repeating this jargon in your cover letter and CV.
The trick is to read the ad and work out what potential employers are looking for and mirror that in your CV. You need to spell out and show you have the skills and experience they are looking for via the details, examples of your achievements and duties that you include on your CV. Don’t simply blend in by scattering buzzwords – give bosses proof you are the right match for their vacancy.
