Now relatives pray he’ll break silence over string of deaths
A PAEDOPHILE rapist and serial murderer who once reportedly confessed to killing 48 women has been struck by cancer.
A prison source said of Peter Tobin: “We didn’t think he’d see Christmas but he’s still hanging on.”
The 72-year-old has refused to cooperate over a string of unsolved deaths but victims’ relatives now hope he will finally give up his secrets.
Tobin, who has a history of faking illness, learned early last year that he has cancer. Told of the diagnosis, Dan McNicol, brother of murdered Dinah McNicol, said: “I’m pleased to hear that and I hope he is suffering.”
Dan, of Brentwood, Essex, added: “I don’t want him to die, I want him to live to be 100 so he is suffering like he made his victims suffer.
“And if he is as frail and ill as it’s VICTIM Vicky Hamilton thought, I hope he finds something in himself to tell the truth about what else he has done and other women he has killed so families have closure.”
Dinah, 18, accepted a lift from Tobin after leaving a music festival in Liphook, Hants in 1991. She was never seen again.
He is serving three life sentences in Saughton prison, Edinburgh, for her killing and those of Angelica Kluk, 23 and
Vicky Hamilton, 15, between 1991 and 2006.
Unsolved crimes he’s been linked with include the disappearance of Louise Kay, 18, who vanished when Tobin was working near her home in Polegate, East Sussex in 1988.
Pamela Exall disappeared in 1974 after a beach stroll near Snettisham, Norfolk.
Photos of jewellery found in Tobin’s possession were apparently similar to those she had worn.
Last year criminologist Prof David Wilson said Tobin is reported to have told a prison psychiatrist he killed 48 women. He then smiled and said: “Prove it.”
The killer once pretended to be dead in his cell and has been in and out of hospital with suspected strokes and heart attacks. But the prison source said: “You can’t fake cancer.
“He was attending the hospital a lot before his diagnosis. He’s very frail and rarely leaves his cell.”
In 2015 Tobin was slashed in the face by child rapist Sean Moynihan and left with an eightinch scar.
Two years later it was reported he was too scared to leave his cell because DAN McNICOL BROTHER OF MURDERED DINAH Angelica Kluk Dinah McNicol he feared further attacks. The source added: “Now he’s just too frail to leave and only really goes out when he’s going to hospital.”
Police have long suspected Tobin killed many more young women but he won’t admit his guilt and has told detectives he “couldn’t give a f***” about his victims’ families.
As well as being linked to the disappearances of Louise Kay and Pamela Exall, there has also been speculation he was behind the “Bible John” murders of three young women in Glasgow between 1968 and 1969.
In 1993 the killer was jailed for 14 years for raping two 14-year-old girls at his flat in Havant, Hants.
He stabbed one of them while his younger son was present, then turned on the gas taps in an attempt to kill them.
The Scottish Prison Service said they did not discuss individual prisoners.
