Lamps: No repeat of August’s 4-1 drubbing

- BY JAMES NURSEY @JamesNursey

FRANK LAMPARD has vowed that Derby’s August thumping by table-toppers Leeds will not happen again tonight.

Last time the clubs met was rookie Lampard’s first home game in charge when Derby lost 4-1.

But the Rams boss insists both he and his young side have progressed hugely since then.

Derby are sixth in the Championship and after just one defeat in eight games, Lampard said: “It is a tough match, we know that. We played them second game of the season and they played very well and beat us.

“I feel we have improved since then. We were transitional at that point so we’ll give ourselves a bye.

“Since then we have had a lot of time to work. But the table doesn’t lie and Leeds have been very strong. It will be a big test for us, I look forward to it and the players need to look forward to it.

“In terms of our promotion SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL, Australia, Men’s Quarter-finals (8) A Seppi (Ita) bt (1) S Tsitsipas (Gre) 4-6 6-4 6-4,

“We would like to think we will give them a better game now.”

Lampard won his opening game as

Derby manager at Reading before his side were steamrollered by Leeds.

But the Chelsea legend and former England midfielder says it was crucial not to panic at that early setback.

He added: “I am a young boss, but I am an old player.

“I got beat 4-1 before myself and I realised it wasn’t the be all and end all. I took it at face value as what it was – a defeat and a good reminder of the battles we had to come. We
