Big bother as Em mourns CBB loss
MOST people are feeling a bit low with the January blues, but Emma Willis is suffering more than most because she really “misses” Big Brother, saying it’s been “weird” not to do it this month.
The mum of three, 42, tells me: “January has been weird if I’m being honest. When Big Brother finished, everybody was really sad. But I think all of us thought it would be nice to have a bit of time in January and not have New Year happen and suddenly you are back into it.
“But if I am honest I have really missed it. It has been lovely to have an extended amount of time at home with the kids but I am someone that likes to keep busy. I miss it. I really, really do.
It’s been a funny old month, I have got a lot done at home that I wouldn’t normally have, but it has been weird not having it.”
Big Brother was axed by Channel 5 after 18 years in 2018, and this is the first January there hasn’t been a Celebrity Big Brother since 2011.
Emma, who is on our screens tonight hosting The Voice on ITV, said she loves that judge Jennifer Hudson has a bizarre ritual if she likes an act – she throws both her shoes at them – her version of Paul Hollywood’s Bake Off handshake.
Emma says: “I just want her to chuck them my way because those boots are amazing. I am like ‘chuck them at me and I will keep them’.”
She also says she has become more “robust” and cries less on The Voice and thinks the show is more about making good TV than finding a superstar.
She adds: “I feel like everybody is asking ‘Are we going to have a chart star?’ but the charts are a whole new entity these days. “Music is not the same as it used to be, and creating a star on a show like this doesn’t happen any more. This is an entertainment show, and if it gives someone a platform to do something they love, we’ve done our job. If they top the charts, amazing, but if they can do what they love and make a living from it, isn’t that what we are all after?”
