I’d love to snap up lifestyle photo jobs
Dear Biz
I’ve been a photographer for years (grantpritchard.co.uk). It started as a hobby while travelling and then I started getting my pictures published in photography magazines and travel guides.
I do a lot in the health and fitness area, taking shots for sports training guides, and I have worked with tourism organisations to help promote areas including Wales.
I cover events worldwide and have recently expanded into video work and received my CAA registered drone pilot licence so I can offer video stills taken via a drone. I’ve also started doing more lifestyle photography for clothing brands and products such as drinks for brochures and magazines.
I really enjoy these assignments and would like to try and build up a bit more work in this area. Any ideas or tips on how I might grow this side of the business?

Getting your work under the noses of the bosses of brands you’d like to work with is usually the best way to grab their attention. Target some brands you’d ideally like to work with, maybe smaller firms to begin with, to help you build up that side of your portfolio. After you’re underway, you can then hit the bigger names.
Make sure you use social media to showcase and promote your work, it will get the pictures you think best reflect your skills in this area out there to a bigger audience.
Follow people in marketing departments on Twitter and Instagram and connect with them on LinkedIn so you can get to know more about their brand and their views, and the way they work.
Hopefully they’ll see your work and passion. This could help you to get a foot in the door.
