Zoe’s having a Ball with her fat salary

-

■ The money that Zoe Ball is getting for presenting her show is staggering. How can anyone justify paying that amount for someone to just play some records?

These bumper pay packets for so-called celebrities are getting out of hand. The BBC pays far too much money to these Z-listers, instead of ploughing the money into making decent programmes.

I do agree that female presenters should be paid the same as the men – just don’t pay them all so much. Malcolm Richardson, Grays, Essex

■ I agree that Zoe Ball is more than capable of hosting the breakfast show on Radio 2. I don’t however agree with how much she – and all the other TV presenters and radio presenters – get paid.

The people who should be paid this much are nurses and firemen who do an amazing job – the latter even risking their lives at work. However, I do wish Zoe Ball well – she deserves this job.

■ It would be unfair of me to single out Zoe Ball for criticism for getting the best deal she could. But it is certainly fair to criticise the BBC for serving up a diet of Christmas repeats and pleading poverty and then spending £1.2million per year of licence fee payers’ money on a job which, when all is said and done, doesn’t amount to much more than pushing buttons and yapping. John Lee, St Ives Cambridgeshire

There is no way that Zoe Ball would turn down a huge sum like that. Good on her for taking the job. If someone offered me that kind of money then I would take it like a shot. Chris Evans earned far more than her for doing the same job, taking home £1.6million.

I like Zoe’s style and would much rather listen to her in the mornings than him, and I will keep tuning in to Radio 2. ■ Zoe Ball has been through some terrible times and last year raised a lot of money for Sport Relief. I think people should stop criticising her. A lot of her male colleagues get paid far more money than she does, she’s great at her job and her cheery personality always makes me smile.

Maybe those moaning should complain about what our MPs and fatcat bosses earn instead. Richard Whitelaw, East London

■ I couldn’t stand listening to Zoe Ball on It Takes Two on BBC2, and I won’t be tuning in to her show on Radio 2. There’s no way that she should be getting that sort of money and there should be a cap on how much these presenters get paid. The money saved should be spent on supporting the NHS.

She also talks too fast and it makes me tired just listening to her. I think Sara Cox should have got the job instead.

Margaret Stevens Folkestone, Kent

■ So Zoe Ball is on £1.2million for her Radio 2 breakfast show. It’s no wonder that, paying that kind of salary, the BBC are thinking of stopping the free TV licence fee for us pensioners. Shame on you, BBC. Disgusting.
