Cold Feeters growing old disgracefully

-

The Cold Feet characters have officially reached their mid-life crises.

In this series, the Manc gang – now in their 50s – get high on drugs at a music festival.

Fay Ripley, who plays Jen, admits the characters let their hair down, which she enjoyed on set.

“I get to do loads of drunk acting, and dancing,” says Fay.

“I’m on top of the bar, taking tequila, there are drugs taken.

“There’s a lot of fun stuff, sort of mid-life crisis-ey stuff to get through before we get too heavy about anything.”

Strait-laced David, played by Robert Bathurst, has a “strange” time at the event, the actor admits. Meanwhile, Fay, 52, and her co-stars are pretty comfortable with each other on set, after working together since 1997, which is handy – Fay has no qualms about telling co-star John Thomson if he has bad breath ahead of a kissing scene. “It’s like family now,” she says, speaking on new TV podcast Series Linked.

“You can short cut all the polite stuff and get straight to, ‘John, can you brush your teeth’. Do you know what I mean?

“I know him well enough, ‘John, seriously mate, you just need to get the electric toothbrush going here’.” Especially after a weekend caning it in a field.

The show, now in its eighth series, returned to ITV on Monday night with an audience of 4.5million.
