YOUR SHOUT

A huge reaction to last Saturday’s comments on knife crime/lack of police presence. Just a tiny fraction here:

Fiona, very good »

article re knife killings and police invisibility. You ask WHY, WHY, WHY? Simple answer, TORY CUTS, CUTS, CUTS.

Chris Torode, Catterick

Fiona, like you, I‘ve »

almost forgotten what a policeman looks like. My son was walking through a London park 15 months ago when he was set upon by a gang of schoolboys in balaclavas. Police and an ambulance were called, he waited for 90 minutes, in deep shock, bleeding badly. No one turned up.

A passer-by eventually took him to hospital where he was questioned by police. He couldn’t give any details of his attackers and the case was closed a couple of weeks later.

He had a broken eye socket and, during surgery, his optic nerve was damaged. He now has no sight in his right eye. His life has been ruined by these thugs who will probably do the same to someone else. Maybe already have.

Shocking, shocking, shocking.

Fiona, I live in Corby, »

Northants, population circa 70,000. There isn’t a police station in sight. We never see an officer nor a police car either.

Burglary? Ring up and you get an incident number. Car stolen? Here’s an incident number. Break-in? If not in progress, then here’s an incident number.

It’s not rocket science that if you take around 20,000 police off the street, or off crime investigation, then crime will increase. Government doesn’t see the reality of the effects on us. They don’t give a rat’s behind about us. Rant over!

Keep up the good work, Fiona. You’re a credit to the ordinary man and woman on the street.

Maureen Lang Corby, Northants

FP: Well, that has made me feel very proud, Maureen. Thank you!
