Switch off Tory ploy

-

SAVING free TV licences for the over-75s is a popular crusade.

Fair-minded people everywhere are warning the BBC it would be committing a grave mistake if it does Theresa May’s dirty work.

Support for maintaining the benefit has grown since the Daily Mirror launched our popular campaign against the Conservative Government sneakily breaking a solemn election pledge.

Tell BBC director-general Tony Hall he must keep licences free for the elderly while you still can. It is a battle we must, and will, win together.

Isolating the elderly or forcing them to pay £154.50 a year for something that was free for years would be completely unacceptable.

We shudder at the prospect of the BBC and Government dragging through the courts those pensioners who are unable to pay.

The BBC should be telling May to go after wealthy tax-dodgers and huge companies refusing to pay fair, instead of picking on senior citizens whose best friend is sometimes the television.
