Goals aren’t the key for me says Raul

- RAUL THE ROOST BY JAMES NURSEY

RAUL JIMENEZ reckons the secret to his success at Wolves is that goals are not everything to him.

The on-loan Mexican striker has nine top-flight goals and also netted two vital strikes in the FA Cup to set up a fifth-round tie at Bristol City this weekend.

But it is his unselfishness, workrate and link-up play that has endeared him to Wolves fans as much as his goal tally.

Already he has five assists to his credit in the Premier League.

They include a vital pass in the last-gasp 4-3 home win over Leicester when Jimenez squared for Diogo Jota to tap in when other strikers may have shot.

Little wonder Wolves intend to buy the striker permanently from parent club Benfica this summer for £30million.

The 27-year-old said: “Strikers are happy when they score but you have to think about the team – the assist and movements which can give space for your team-mates. You can never quit. It’s all about teamwork.”

Jimenez joined Wolves while away with Mexico at the World Cup last summer after three years with Benfica. He feels his time on the continent helped him hit the ground running here in England.

Jimenez added: “It’s easier to make the jump from Spain and Portugal to here. Now I want to keep improving.”
