MARTYN WAGHORN says he has unfinished business in the Premier League – and believes Frank Lampard’s Derby would thrive alongside the big boys. in the Premier League, Waghorn, 29, who made just six appearances for Sunderland in the top tier, replied: “Yes, definitely. But with this manager and the players, we need to get over that line.

“The club is all set up to be in the Premier League with the chairman Mel Morris. We have got a great opportunity to be a success and hopefully I can be back in there.

“I think we have showed that this year against Premier League opposition. We have confidence knowing we have gone to teams and done well.

“We have always given a good account of ourselves and pushed, worked hard and played on the front foot.

“The energy and desire we have in the team will stand us in good stead in the Premier League.

“But we have three, four months to go, big games coming up and hopefully the end goal is promotion.”

Waghorn struck four minutes before half-time after David Marshall saved his first effort.

He hit the Tigers again in the 71st minute after brilliant work by full-back Jayden Bogle on the right.

The forward was subbed on 89 minutes to be denied the chance of a hat-trick as Ashley Cole came on for his debut.

Waghorn said: “We probably needed fresh legs then just to try to run the ball into the corner and I understand the decision. It is all about the team getting the win.

“When I got the nod to play up front I was over the moon.

“I thought I’d have to work hard, do my best for the team, be a threat and be an option.

“I have great competition in David Nugent and Jack Marriott, who has done ever so well this year.”

Hull were made to pay for Kamil Grosicki scuffing an easy chance against the post early on.

Boss Nigel Adkins lamented: “We didn’t produce the quality we have this season.”
