Train driver’s breath test after 999 call
POLICE Letchworth station A COMMUTER train was stopped by police and the driver breathalysed after a passenger phoned 999 claiming he was drunk.
Officers removed the driver from his cab at 9.25am yesterday and gave him the test on platform – which he passed.
The London to Cambridge train was delayed at Letchworth Garden City, Herts, until the unnamed driver was allowed back in the cab.
Passenger Robert Cummins said: “We had no idea what was going on.
“It looked like the driver was being put in handcuffs. It took a while for it all to be sorted.”
A Great Northern Rail spokesman confirmed: “The train was stopped and the driver was asked to take a breath test.”
