■ Fibre is crucial in our diets, yet there are still people who don’t know which foods contain it.

It’s found in fruit, vegetables, nuts, beans and wholegrain bread. And eating it cuts the risk of heart disease and cancer by up to 30%.

Yet just a tenth of UK adults gets the recommended 30g a day – and a National Association of British and Irish Flour Millers poll of 2,000 people shows one in 10 thought eggs were a good source while 6% think the same about cod.

Among 18 to 24-year-olds, 14% thought rump steak had fibre – and 5% thought there were high amounts in gin. Just 30% realised a lack of fibre can lead to some cancers. ■ Scientists have found a new stressbuster - playing Tetris.

Research shows the game – in which blocks of differing shapes have to be slotted together – stopped patients reliving emotional trauma.

Dr Mithu Storoni, a neuroscientist and author of Stress-Proof: The Ultimate Guide to Living a Stress-Free Life, said: “You cut a stress reaction short by playing Tetris the moment you leave the scene. The challenge of fitting each shape in Tetris draws your entire attention into the game, so your mind can’t wander to replay the scene.”

■ Mums-to-be who think positively during pregnancy have bright children.

Researchers at Bristol University asked 1,600 pregnant women whether they felt in control of their lives.

Mothers who said yes were more likely to have a child who was good at maths and science between the ages of eight and 13.

They were also more likely to give their children healthy food, read stories to them and to show an interest in their homework.
