Duchess gets ‘treated like Diana’

GEORGE Clooney believes the Duchess of Sussex is being “pursued and vilified” and treated like Princess Diana. The actor said history was repeating itself and warned: “We’ve seen how that ends”.

Last night Meghan’s baby bump was prominent as she wore a Calvin Klein dress and Amanda Wakeley coat to the gala of a play at the Natural History Museum in London with Harry, 34. Clooney, 57, who was at the royals’ wedding in May with wife Amal, 41, slammed the treatment of Meghan. He said: “She’s a woman who is seven months pregnant. She has been pursued and vilified and chased in the same way that Diana was, and it’s history repeating itself. “We’ve seen how that ends,” referring Diana’s fatal car crash in 1997. The actor, promoting his new mini-series Catch-22, also hit out at Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, who has published a personal letter from Meghan in which she asked him to stop “victimising” her. Clooney said: “I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to see that. You’re taking a letter from a daughter to a father and broadcasting it everywhere. She’s getting a raw deal there. It’s irresponsible.”

Kensington Palace is said to be considering legal action over the leaked letter after Meghan’s estranged half-sister, Samantha, threatened to reveal more about their relationship breakdown.

Mr Markle, 74, has said his relationship with Meghan has broken down and publicly appealed for her to get in touch.

On Sunday, the retired lighting director dismissed claims he has not tried to contact his daughter.

Mr Markle lashed out after five unnamed friends of Los Angelesborn Meghan, 37, last week told US magazine People: “He’s never called. He’s never texted. It’s super painful.”

One, described as a former co-star, said: “Meg has silently sat back and endured the lies and untruths. We worry about what this is doing to her and the baby. It’s wrong to put anyone under this level of emotional trauma, let alone when they’re pregnant.”

Clooney, who has 20-month-old twins, also denied he will be godfather to Harry and Meghan’s baby.

He said: “No, I’m now a father of twins, I’ve got enough s**t.”

The royals reportedly holidayed with the Clooneys in August at their villa in Lake Como Italy.

Kensington Palace declined to comment over the reports.
