Finn resting after surgery SIMON Cowell wiped away tears during the Britain’s Got Talent audition of a police dog who was almost stabbed to death while saving his handler’s life.

Finn the German shepherd and PC Dave Wardell performed a magic trick for the ITV show judges in Manchester.

During the act a video was shown featuring Finn’s story, showing pictures of the injuries he suffered in the attack in 2016 and his amazing recovery.

Simon said: “If I had a golden buzzer left I would give it to you...

“When I hear about animal cruelty, especially dogs, it upsets me. A dog will literally give up its life for you... Finn’s beautiful, I love him.”

Finn and PC Wardell had cornered a suspect who then plunged a 10in knife into the dog’s head and chest. But

The dog did not let go until back-up arrived and the man was arrested.

Finn’s bravery earned him a Daily Mirror Animal Hero of the Year Award.

PC Wardell now campaigns for greater legal protection for service animals – legislation that would be named Finn’s Law.

It would close a legal loophole that allows thugs to evade justice by claiming self-defence as a justification for harming a service animal while committing a crime.

Two weeks ago the bill passed its third reading in the Commons and will now go to the Lords.

Finn is now retired from the force. Britain’s Got Talent will return to our screens this year, with Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly as the hosts. SIMON COWELL DURING THE PAIR’S BGT AUDITION
