Just take a garden hose and pinch the end to create a strong jet of water, then hose it away. A jet washer is too powerful and damages the tarmac along with its aggregate.

Sun bleaching is a killer and there’s not a lot you can do. I’d suggest trying a product called Wood Reviver Power-Gel by Osmo.
How do I remove spots of white masonry paint from rosewood uPVC window and door frames? Anthony Williams, by email
Use a sharp piece of wood and rub off the paint splashes – this won’t scratch the plastic surface. You could also try a polymer composite cleaner – just check the instructions. By the way, to mask off the windows when painting in future, use a product called Indasa Coverall. It’s like a thick cling film and I use it all the time.

QWe have a stone one-piece fire place surround which was stained by spilled candle wax over Christmas. I’ve removed most of it but some marks remain. Any suggestions as to what can be done? Robert Broadley, by email
Use a product called Lithofin Wax-Off. This removes layers of wax and oils, and can be washed off with water. Just remember to read the instructions so you get the correct level of dilution required.
