SAINTS PLOT SEQUEL TO SHOCK UNAI

- BY ALEX CROOK

RALPH HASENHUTTL is backing Southampton to stun Unai Emery for the second time after claiming facing the big guns makes his players shine.

Hasenhuttl picked up his first win as Saints boss against Arsenal in December (above) – ending Emery’s 22-match unbeaten run.

The Austrian, whose team also held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge, said: “Every game is difficult, but I think in the first game we showed we can bring this surprising result.

“We’re not frightened of anyone and confidence is high. We have shown we can take points against big teams.

“We showed against Arsenal and Chelsea we can compete with them. Games like this should bring out the best in us.

“It will be a good mixture between defensive balance and a good transition forward to create problems for Arsenal, like we did in the first game.

“When we are well organised, it’s not easy to score against us. But these teams don’t need many chances because they have so much quality.”

Hasenhuttl has also warned his players they need to stop throwing away points late in games if they are to avoid relegation.

Cardiff’s last-gasp winner at St Mary’s a fortnight ago was the sixth time Saints have conceded in the

90th minute.

Hasenhuttl added: “Small mistakes can make a huge difference between winning points or not. That was the key message in the last two weeks.

“In some parts of games, it’s not about shape or tactics, but about keeping clean sheets – defending like a team in the last five minutes and being smart.

“We don’t take risks any more.” Chelsea v Dynamo Kiev Frankfurt v Inter Dinamo Zagreb v Benfica Napoli v Salzburg Valencia v Krasnodar Sevilla v Slavia Prague Rennes v Arsenal* Zenit v Villarreal The teams drawn first (on the left) will play at home in the first leg. *This tie has been switched, with Arsenal at home in the second leg.
