EASTENDERS star Lacey Turner has told of her joy at being pregnant after the heartbreak of two miscarriages.

The 30-year-old, who plays Stacey Fowler in the BBC soap, is at 19 weeks and she and husband Matt Kay are excited about starting a family.

But she admitted having “12 scans” for peace of mind.

Showing off her bump, Lacey said: “I can’t wait to nurture our baby, we’ve dreamed of having a family for so long.

“When you’ve lost babies all you care about is the heartbeat – we’ve had about 12 scans.”

Childhood sweethearts Lacey and Matt, 30, wed in 2017 and have been trying for a baby for some time.

She said: “We’ve been pregnant twice before and lost both babies at seven weeks. It felt like my world had fallen to pieces and there’s nothing you can do apart from try and put it back together. I blamed myself, thinking that I’d done something wrong.

“But, of course, I hadn’t done anything wrong – it’s all down to chromosomes and luck, really. Speaking to other people about it helped me. Women shouldn’t feel ashamed to talk about it as it happens to so many women.”

As she looks forward to welcoming her first child in mid-July, Lacey has been battling morning sickness. She said: “Seasick bands were my best friend. I’d only take them off to have a bath. When I was wearing them, I’d time it so I’d get up 20 minutes earlier, throw up, then drive to work.” And it may have been the morning sickness signs that led EastEnders co- star Natalie Cassidy to guess she was pregnant. Lacey said: “I said I had something to tell her and she said, ‘Don’t bother, I already know. I can tell by your face!’” When Lacey and Matt married, they were asked if they would like to have kids and she replied: “That would be nice. I want four children.” However, Matt insisted he wanted only three and Lacey added: “When you have four you need to start thinking about a minivan, whereas three you just need a car. I don’t care though; I’ll have a minivan!”
