JOE GARNER sickened his old club with a late leveller, but admitted: “In the end I was just happy to take the point and move on.”

The 30-year-old striker scored 10 in 32 games for the Tractor Boys before his £1.25million move to Wigan in the summer.

His equaliser came in the first minute of stoppage time, just nine minutes after he replaced Josh Windass. Garner (celebrating above with Callum McManaman) said:

“If you are a sub, you have to come on and make an impact and I managed to do just that. They defended well and were organised. They managed the game really well.”

Town had to, after going down to 10 men in the 25th minute. Ref Lee Probert had no choice but to dismiss Jonas Knudsen after the Dane brought down Leon Clarke.

Ipswich’s loan striker Will Keane gave them a firsthalf lead from the spot after Chey Dunkley fouled another Ipswich loan man Collin Quaner.

And the Tractor Boys, nine points from safety, dug in and held out until the last minute, with Garner admitting: “When they went down to 10 men, they sat behind the ball and made it really difficult.”

Portman Road boss Paul Lambert, banned from the touchline for two games after the rumpus at Norwich, said that survival was not yet mission impossible, pointing to next week’s six-pointer at home to struggling Reading.

Ipswich’s towering German striker Quaner, who lasted only 45 minutes before being subbed, said: “It feels like a defeat today and is a really disappointing result for us.

“We put our bodies on the line and there was not much more you could have asked from us.”
