DONALD Trump’s former lawyer and fixer launched a blistering attack on him when he appeared before the US Senate yesterday.
Michael Cohen branded the President “a racist”, “a conman” and “a cheat” – and said he regretted ever having worked for him.
He also claimed the tycoon knew WikiLeaks planned to publish hacked Democrat emails during the election campaign.
Cohen also said Mr Trump paid him with personal cheques to buy the silence of alleged mistress ALLEGATIONS Cohen Stormy Daniels. And he claimed the President regularly uses racist language – and said black people are “too stupid” to vote for him.
Lifting the lid on his 10 years of service, Cohen said: “I am ashamed because I know what Mr Trump is. He is a racist. He is a conman. He is a cheat.”
Cohen is due to surrender to prison in
May and serve three years after admit- ting tax fraud, false statements to a bank and campaign finance violations linked to his work for Mr Trump. Testifying before the House Oversight and Reform committee, Cohen said he was with Mr Trump when his associate Roger Stone called about WikiLeaks. He said: “Mr Trump knew in advance about the WikiLeaks drop. In July 2016, I was in Mr Trump’s office when his secretary said Roger Stone was on the phone.
“Mr Trump put Mr Stone on speakerphone. Mr Stone told him he had just gotten off the phone with Julian Assange and Mr Assange told Mr Stone that within days there would be a dump of emails that would damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign.” He said Mr Trump responded: “Wouldn’t that be great.”
Cohen also handed over images of cheques he said proved Mr Trump knew of the pay-off to Daniels, which he previously denied.
They allegedly show how and when the tycoon incrementally reimbursed him for the £98,000 payment to the porn star.
Of Mr Trump’s views on race, disgraced Cohen, who was disbarred on Tuesday, claimed he told him “black people would never vote for him because they were too stupid”. He added: “Mr Trump HUSH MONEY Stormy Daniels is a racist. The country has seen Mr Trump court white supremacists [and] call foreign countries s***holes. He once asked if I could name a country run by a black that wasn’t a s***hole.” Other claims included Mr Trump knowing of his son meeting a Russian operative before the election.
The President continued his attack on Cohen ahead of his testimony, tweeting: “Michael Cohen ... was just disbarred for lying and fraud. He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time.” WikiLeaks said in a statement: “WikiLeaks publisher Julian Assange has never had a telephone call with Roger Stone. WikiLeaks publicly teased its pending publications on Hillary Clinton.”
