Dr Allin-Khan’s dad was found on floor A LABOUR MP has told Parliament of her family’s heartbreak when they feared their dad was being mistreated in a care home.

Rosena Allin-Khan said he had to spend a month in hospital after being found “bloodied, bruised, and unconscious in suspicious circumstances”.

The MP, also an A&E doctor, added: “He was on the floor, blood on the walls and floor, and a carer’s set of keys next to him.”

She drew gasps from colleagues as she spoke of the horror in a debate on safeguarding vulnerable people in care homes on Tuesday. HORRIFIED Dr Allin-Khan She said Wandsworth council’s chief of adult social services, Liz Bruce, had “refused to look at photos of her father’s injuries”. The MP for Tooting, South West London, backs the Daily Mirror’s Fair Care For All campaign, which calls for a national commission on funding the care revolution, the Living Wage for carers and the creation of a National Care System.

She explained she and her brother thought their father – who suffers from

Fdementia and is unable to speak – had been happy at Ensham House in Wandsworth, South London, for about a year, until a carer phoned. “When you discover someone you love hurts very badly, your whole world ends,” she added. “If this were happening to the UK’s children, the country would be in uproar, and rightly so. Someone living with dementia is just as dependent in their final years as children are in their first years.” Wandsworth council said of Ms Bruce: “The council has strong confidence in the professionalism of her and staff.”
