The Junk Food Experiment, ITV ★★★

- IAN HYLAND

Over on ITV last night, a visibly distressed Nadine Dorries MP announced: “I just feel ghastly.”

I know what you’re wondering. Had someone just told her many people believe her Government’s austerity policies have contributed directly and indirectly to this nation’s obesity crisis?

Sadly not. Nadine Dorries MP was simply describing how Nadine Dorries MP felt after spending three weeks eating nothing but burgers, pizzas, fried chicken and chips in a TV experiment.

It wasn’t the first time Nadine had subjected herself to an unpleasant diet on ITV. As she was eager to point out to Peter Andre, she also did a stint on I’m A Celebrity. You couldn’t blame Pete for wondering who this mysterious

girl was. She was first to be voted out of the jungle after all.

To Nadine’s credit she stayed the course this time. Made In Chelsea’s Hugo Taylor was moaning about being out of his “comfort zone” before the first ad break – and duly buggered orf soon after it.

Meanwhile, actress Hayley Tamaddon succumbed to her IBS and Olympian Tessa Sanderson was ordered to quit by medics as the junk food had put her at

risk of a stroke after just TWO WEEKS. That alone made it hard not to concur with The Chase’s Shaun Wallace when he declared: “I will never eat junk food again.” As for Pete, he was rocked by news that working out six times a week did not counteract the harm of junk food. Look on the bright side, Pete. If you accept “good things cannot cancel out bad things” as a general rule, there’s no longer any pressure on you to release 11 amazing albums.
