LEES: MAD CROSSING THE DIVIDE

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

GARY MADINE has been warned he will be targeted by Sheffield Wednesday fans at Hillsborough tonight because he crossed the city divide to join Sheffield United.

Madine (right) joined the Blades on loan from Cardiff in January, but he also spent four years with the Owls until 2015. Tom Lees played with the striker in his final season with Wednesday and says he will get some stick from the Owls supporters. The defender said: “It takes a lot of character to go and do that. I’m sure he will expect to get a bit of stick for it.” The 6ft 3in Madine, who scored 28 goals for Wednesday, has netted twice for the Blades and Lees claims he will pose a threat. “He’s a handful,” he said. “He’s a good, physical presence and a danger in the air. ”

Madine said: “It’s a really big game for both sides now.

“Obviously, Sheffield United are wanting to stay at the top of the table, trying to secure promotion.

“They’ve obviously come into a bit of form, so there’s stuff to play for both sides.”
