TOM Goodman-Hill has told how he drew on the experience of his affair with Jessica Raine for his new TV role as a twotiming husband.

The 50-year-old plays Adam, the spouse of a university lecturer in ITV thriller Cheat, who is seduced by one of his wife’s vengeful students.

It comes nine years after he had a fling with Call the Midwife star Jessica, 37, while still married to Kerry Bradley, mum of his two grown-up children.

Mr Selfridge actor Tom told Radio Times: “I was very conscious of that when I picked up the script.

“If you understand the map, if you know how that feels, you’re going to bring something of that to the part.

“You draw on your experiences and choose moments from your life that resonate with your character. Part of your job is to help people understand what emotions people go through in situations so someone who can understand it is going to, perhaps, do that more successfully than someone who can’t.” Tom’s 20-year relationship with Kerry collapsed months after his affair with Jessica. He wed his new love in 2015 and they had a child last month. Cheat, which starts next week, kicks off with a plagiarism row when student Rose (Molly Windsor) submits a suspicious essay.

Her lecturer Leah – played by Katherine Kelly – pulls her up on it and in revenge she sets her sights on her husband Adam, with fatal consequences. Tom also played adulterers in Mr Selfridge and Humans.
