How to succeed in your job hunt
If you’re not having much success with looking for a new job, then it’s probably time to brush up your act and try some new tactics.
We’ve teamed up with Fish4job for some pointers to get you back on track...
Keep on applying Don’t get too hung up over a single job opportunity. Keep your eyes out for all vacancies with potential, ones that match your skill set, and apply for as many as possible. Tailor applications Ensure applications are tailored for each job for the best chance of success. Use your cover letter to draw attention to the key skills and experience that make you the perfect candidate.
Online networking Social media platforms such as LinkedIn can be vital tools. Ensure your profile is complete and up-to-date, outlining your experience, work history and a summary about you. Most employers check online profiles, and firms and recruiters can discover you via them. Double check there’s nothing unprofessional on all of your social media accounts.
Widen the net Don’t limit your applications to job vacancies where you meet each and every single requirement. There are a lot of skills that you can pick up quite easily. For a number of roles, employers will be just as interested in someone with related skills and experience that’s not an exact match but has the enthusiasm and determination to make up for it.
There are also a lot of jobs that provide full training, enabling you to branch out from your current path or even switch careers.
