HOWE: WE’VE NO NEGATIVE VIBES

- BY ALEX CROOK

EDDIE HOWE has promised to send Bournemouth out to attack at Huddersfield today after making an unwanted piece of history.

The Cherries became the first home team since the Premier League began not to manage a single shot on target during last weekend’s 1-0 defeat by champions Manchester City at the Vitality Stadium.

Howe said: “Those stats aren’t great but there is no way we sent the players out there in a negative frame of mind, to say ‘don’t attack’.

“I am an attacking coach and I want to see attacking play.

“It was disappointing not to see it but you are setting your team up to try and win the game.

“We tried to do that and it did not work. Hopefully you will see us as more of an attacking threat in this game, but we have to earn the right to do that.” Howe is also backing January buy Chris Mepham (above, tackling Raheem Sterling) to fill the void left by crocked Steve Cook, who faces six weeks out with a groin injury.

Howe said: “We are going to miss Cookie, we have missed him because but you are looking for new players to step into those shoes and fill the gap.

“Chris has come into the team and not looked a new player.” with two with centre-half Mathias Jorgensen leading the way with three!

The Danish midfielder said: “Everyone has failed. I have scored two and been unlucky not to score more, but I need to get into those areas where I can help the team.

“We can’t just put it all on the strikers and say it’s their job. That’s not fair. They have not had the best service, which is hard in this league.”
