Beckham in mobile phone car shame
DAVID Beckham has admitted using a mobile phone while driving his Bentley, it emerged yesterday.
It comes two months after the former England football captain, 43, was widely criticised for using a legal loophole to escape a speeding charge.
Dad-of-four Beckham was charged with the phone rap on February 5, after a witness reported him to police as he drove in Central London last November.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said yesterday: “The Met understands a postal guilty plea was subsequently received by Bromley magistrates.” The case is due to be heard in private at the court today. Beckham, of Holland Park, West London, is not expected to attend.
Road safety group Brake previously accused Beckham of “shirking his responsibility” over the speeding offence.
Enlisting celebrity lawyer Nick “Mr Loophole” Freeman, he admitted hitting 59mph in a 40mph zone in West London, in January 2018. But he faced no action after a prosecu tion notice arrived a day after the 14-day time limit, as the Mirror reported.
Brake’s Joshua Harris said it was “hugely disappointing” to see him get off “on a mere technicality”.
In 2016 The Mirror began a campaign against drivers using mobiles. New rules of six points on a licence and a £200 fine came in during 2017. Beckham’s spokesman did not reply to our request for comment yesterday.
