Shopkeepers terrified by robbery
A ROBBER threatens two petrified shopkeepers with a meat cleaver during a raid that has landed her and her lover in jail.
CCTV pictures show Ashley TurnerPlatt, 30, at the store as she screamed “give me the f***ing money”.
When the husband and wife shopkeepers refused, Turner-Platt pushed the man on to the counter and held the weapon to his face. His wife then handed over the cash.
The robber and her accomplice, boyfriend Ashley Turner, 28, fled the
Spar store with £210.
Moments before the raid, CCTV captured the Bonnie and Clyde couple kissing each other in an alleyway outside. The robbery was “deeply upsetting” for the shopkeepers, Susan Evans, 63, and husband Lee, 65.
Mr Evans said: “This was extremely distressing... Having been a butcher I know what those cleavers are like and she wasn’t messing about.”
He added he and his wife had run the store for 15 years without anything like this happening before. They now “want to get out of the business significantly earlier” than they had planned.
The raiders admitted robbery. It was carried out at 7am in November in their hometown of Blackpool, Lancs. Preston crown court heard they had 46 previous offences between them. In mitigation for TurnerPlatt, lawyer Rachel Cooper said: “She had been drinking and says it was her partner, Ashley Turner, who suggested it would be an easy shop to rob.”
Janet Ironfield for Turner said: “He has no previous convictions for robbery and there has been expression of remorse.” Judge Graham Knowles said: “Mrs Evans describes herself as being anxious since this incident. It’s destroyed her trust in her customers.” Mum-of-three Turner-Platt was jailed for five years. Turner, who had been serving a suspended sentence for assault, got six years and 10 months.
