No Bafta for Perkins

-

IT’S the Oscars of the British TV calendar. But with nominations due out on Thursday, the TV Baftas are waiting for one thing – a host.

For while Sue Perkins has been in the hot seat for the past two years, I can reveal the former Bake Off star will be enjoying the 2019 show from the audience instead.

It opens the door for one of Bafta’s old favourites to return – although the Academy is cutting it finer than usual to seal the deal for the May 12 ceremony.

A source tells me: “The host is normally announced before the nominations.

“But the final arrangements are still being made.”

So could the Virgin TV Bafta Awards copy this year’s Oscars and go host-free? “That won’t happen,” adds my source. “It’s more likely it will be a name who’s tried and tested.”

Sue, 49, may be relieved to be a viewer.

Not only did Twitter trolls unfairly slam her for being “sexist” for addressing the gender pay gap, she also clashed with Piers Morgan, after implying he was a “giant organ”.

Last night a friend of Sue’s said she only ever saw it as keeping Graham Norton’s “seat warm” while he focused on Eurovision.

Meanwhile, Killing Eve, Bodyguard and Blue Planet are tipped for Thursday’s nominations, and are also likely to appear in the publicvoted TV Moment of The Year shortlist, released tomorrow.

Finally brush off those bottle tops, because William Hill is offering 2/1 on Bros getting the nod for their documentary. Don’t bet Too Much though – if you lose, they’ll owe you nothing, nothing at all..
