160,000 nurses quit NHS since Tories came to power

MORE than 160,000 nurses have left the NHS since the Tories came to power for reasons other than retirement, data obtained by Labour shows.

Resignatio­ns have soared as austerity cuts created an unpreceden­ted staffing crisis, with 40,000 nursing posts currently unfilled. From 2010 to 2018, a total of 200,586 nurses left, and of this number 163,094 did not retire.

Resignatio­ns from all NHS roles due to lack of work-life balance soared 170%, from 6,669 to 18,013, while those due to ill health doubled to 4,234. Shadow Health Secretary Jon Ashworth
