Brit’s camel wins weight lifting crown
ROW Qasim’s beast in event A CAMEL weight lifting contest won by an animal owned by a British man has been branded “barbaric” by campaigners.
The event in Pakistan sees camels weighed down with bags of rocks that weigh as much as a car then forced to their feet.
Qasim Hussain, 20, from Bradford, West Yorks, won this year’s prize, watched by 20,000 people.
His camel Sheezada Kathreela lifted 1,800kg.
The contest was slammed by animal rights group PETA who described the sport as “abuse”.
PETA director, Elisa Allen, said: “If anyone wishes to enter a weightlifting contest, they should train and have go at it, but leave the animals out of it.”

The former judge, 66, said she had snubbed other work in the US on the Fox network to come here for the final stages of last year’s X Factor.
She said: “I turned down the show Masked Singer. I was signed on to do another show at the time.
“I was signed to go to England and then Simon changed his mind and thought I was too old. Simon goes, ‘She’s old, we need somebody young’.” Sharon did not say how she found out about the alleged comment.
But speaking on US show The Talk, she took a further swipe at Cowell, saying: “So, if you want young, fire yourself and get rid of those man-t*ts.” Her blast was the latest salvo in an eight-month spat.
Sharon, married to Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy Osbourne, previously attacked show boss Cowell, 59, on shock jock Howard Stern’s US radio show.
She branded him “a f***ing pain in the a***” who will do whatever it takes to get “his fat face on TV”.
She later claimed X Factor producers told her she was fired for the comments.
