THE LOWDOWN

choose to ditch Italian Maurizio Sarri. On the eve of today’s game at Burnley, Santo was given every opportunity to rule himself out of the potential job.

But when pressed if he would be sticking around at Molineux long-term to watch his exciting squad develop, Santo replied: “I am going to be tomorrow at the game, for sure.”

Santo did insist he was happy at Wolves, though, where he has spent £100million since promotion under ambitious Chinese owner Fosun. Asked if he was happy there, Santo, whose £3m-a-year deal runs until 2021, responded: “Yes, I consider myself a happy person. Problems and difficulties are involved but at the same time it is a moment of joy. “I’ve total dedication to what I must do and what we must do to keep on becoming better and growing. I’m focused.”

Wolves have lost just once in 12 matches ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.

They will be spearheaded at Burnley by on-loan Benfica striker Raul Jimenez.

The Mexican has scored 15 goals this term including in each of his last three Wolves games. He also netted in the international break in a 3-1 win over Chile. Wolves are expected to make the striker’s signing permanent for £30m later this season.

Santo added: “We are very happy with Raul with his performances, so when things are done, there will be an announcement. We know we have time to make a decision. But the right moment will be the moment that will involve all the parts.”

After today’s game at Burnley, Wolves host Manchester United on Tuesday before next Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final with Watford at Wembley. Wolves are taking 33,000 fans and have sold out 86 coaches for the clash. Santo said: “It’s amazing. We are very pleased. We know when the moment comes, everybody will be there, and we will try to compete. But it is not time to talk about it yet.”
